About Japan
- Climate: The
temperature of late January in Tokyo ranges between 4 C. deg. and
12 C. deg..
- Currency Exchange :
Only 'Japanese Yen' is acceptable at regular stores and
restaurants. Certain foreign currencies may be accepted at a
limited number of hotels, restaurants and souvenir shops. There
are several banks around the conference site where foreign
currencies exchange are available by presenting your passport.
Japanese banks are open 9:00 to 15:00. No monetary exchange
services are available at the conference site.
- Traveler's checks and
credit cards: Traveler's checks are accepted only by
leading banks and major hotels in principal cities, and the use of
traveler's checks in Japan is not as popular as in some other
countries. Master Card, Diners Club, Visa and American Express are
widely accepted at hotels, department stores, shops, restaurants
and nightclubs.
- Shopping: The
business hour of most department stores are open from 10:00 to
19:00. They are open on Sundays and national holidays.
- Tipping: In Japan
tips are generally not necessary, since a 10-15 % service charge
is added to the bill at hotels and most restaurants.
- Transportation:
Narita Airport and Haneda Airport are the international airports
close to Tokyo. Train and bus connections are available from
Narita Airport to Tokyo railroad station. People usually use
mono-rail from Haneda Airport to Hamamatsu-cho railroad station,
and transfer to trains which connect to downtown Tokyo. Either
train or subway is convenient to go to NIHONDAIGAKU-Kaikan.
