Call for Papers

The 8th SEGJ International Symposium

- Imaging and Interpretation -

November 26-28, 2006

Kyoto University Clock Tower Centennial Hall, Kyoto, Japan

Deadlines

Abstract Submission: May 12, 2006

Full Paper Submission: June 30, 2006

The Society of Exploration Geophysicists of Japan (SEGJ) announces a Call for Papers for the 8th SEGJ International Symposium on Imaging and Interpretation technologies, which will be held at Kyoto University Clock Tower Centennial Hall, Kyoto, Japan on November 26-28, 2006. The symposium will be co-sponsored by the Korean Society of Exploration Geophysicists (KSEG), the Australian Society of Exploration Geophysicists (ASEG), the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG), European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE), and the Environmental and Engineering Geophysical Society (EEGS).

Technical Program

The symposium will focus on Imaging and Interpretation technologies that contribute to Interdisciplinary Integration of Geosciences for better understanding and modeling of invisible underground structures and processes. Geophysical imaging technologies, such as seismic methods, electrical and electromagnetic methods, ground penetrating radar, gravity and magnetics, play an important role in various occasions of the human activities, such as natural resource exploration, civil engineering, environmental applications, and natural hazard mitigation, depending on their objectives. Theoretical development in geophysical methods, laboratory measurements, various data processing schemes, modeling and inverse theories help to understand geoscientific processes in invisible underground. Geophysical data management and integrated geophysical technologies are recognized as indispensable tools for deepening understanding of structures and focusing into survey objectives. Interpretation technologies, frontier applications, and case histories are also all acclaimed areas for natural resources exploitations, environmental studies, geotechnical and near surface engineering, underearth exploitation, mitigation of geohazards, understanding of regional to global earth processes, and interdisciplinary geoscientific applications. All papers related to the above categories will be encouraged for submissions to this symposium.

Examples of planned sessions are:

Abstract Submission: Deadline: May 12, 2006

Abstracts in 300-400 words in English should be submitted to the Organizing Committee via website (http://www.segj.org/is8/). Please include the title of the paper, author(s), affiliation(s), and corresponding author's mailing address, fax number and e-mail address. Also, please specify your intended sessions and choice of either oral or poster. Those who do not have any Internet access are suggested to contact the SEGJ office for alternative submission means.

Full Paper Submission: Deadline: June 30, 2006

All corresponding authors are requested to submit a full paper for the proceedings in the specific format after receiving notice of acceptance for oral or poster presentation. Your full paper will be reviewed by the committee for the final acceptance. The proceedings will be handed to all participants at the symposium. Final submissions would be accepted electronically either in Microsoft Word or in Portable Document Format via website (http://www.segj.org/is8/). Those who are not able to submit their documents in these formats via web are also suggested to contact the SEGJ office for alternative formats or submission means.

Travel Support Program to Young Researchers

The organization committee would like to encourage young researchers coming from overseas to participate in this symposium. For this purpose, a young researchers' paper competition will be conducted in advance to the due date of the full paper submissions and the winners will be granted a small amount of travel support. Participants whose ages are under or equal to 35 may submit an application to this support program at the time of their abstract submissions for inscription to the competition. The number of winners will be less than or equal to three. The detailed procedure for this competition will be announced later.
