Abstract
In recent years, the technique of collection has developed rapidly, and seismic data, especially multi-track and multi-variable, are increasing fast. These make the memory and transmission of seismic data difficult, so an extremely urgency is to compress data. Very high data compression algorithms are thus required to make seismic data analysis more efficient in terms of storage and transmission bandwidth. At present the weak research is in data compression of seismic prospecting, and we need to develop and perfect this technique in order to make it systematic, all-around, practical. Conventional compressing methods are not satisfied with the compression¡¯s need for mass seismic data, and the paper has a useful try on compressing seismic data by combining discrete cosine transform and discrete wavelet transform. This research owes three steps as follows: firstly, process seismic data of prospecting by wavelet transform; secondly, transform by discrete cosine on the basis of different significance process; thirdly, code by run length coding. To variant seismic data, the way can produce effect, but the ratio of compression is different and the effect of reconstruction is different too. In conclusion, if we want to compress the seismic data, we should choose appropriate ratio of compression in order to reconstruct data that meet the demand. Experimental results indicate that the proposed algorithm is more efficient without showing any visible artifacts in the decompressed signals. It is observed that it has a better performance of compression and computing.
