Abstract

Mahakam Delta in East Kalimantan, Indonesia is a mature hidrocarbon province with geophysical challenges. The difficult geographic, lithological and structural setting of the fields is not very constructive to obtain an excellent seismic response. For these reasons the seismic data was used mostly for structural mapping. There is a reluctance to use the seismic data for anything more than its conventional purpose.

Sisi and Nubi are two gas fields, - licensed to Total E&P Indonesie, Inpex and Pertamina, but operated by Total E&P Indonesie -, located 20 km offshore from the modern Mahakam delta, where the actual water depth ranges approximately from 60 to 100 m. They represent the most distal fields for Total in the Mahakam area and the payzone is located in a delta front environment, where the sandbodies are more isolated with not many interferences from coal beds. Due to this depositional setting which is different than the rest of Total fields in Mahakam, the seismic data responds rather encouragingly which led to the decision acquiring a new 3D seismic by the end of 2003. The new seismic covers both Sisi and Nubi fields and their surrounding with the aim to optimize the field development using advance geophysical techniques.

The paper highlight the whole processes of how the seismic images helps in geomodel construction in Sisi Nubi field. It will covers - The non conventional medium wavelength static correction method on handling the shallow gas push down effect, in the processing stage. - The use of Amplitude based Attributes and Litho Probability cubes to define geological bodies limit and to populate the geomodel.

These techniques were performed using WesternGeco, Odegaard and Total inhouse softwares under joint cooperation of Total Indonesie Balikpapan and Total SA Head Quarter expertise.
