Abstract
In this study, Element Free Galerkin Method which does not require connectivity between nodes and elements is applied to rock tests for engineering properties. In this process, the rock mass is considered as a statistical heterogeneous material which has strength distribution following Weibull distribution. Uniaxial tensile tests and Brazilian tests which examine tensile strength of the rock are conducted. In both uniaxial tensile test and Brazilian test, microscopic failures are observed prior to macroscopic failure plane nucleation. In both of tests, microscopic failures localize in any area inside of the specimen, finally the macroscopic failure plane is formed perpendicular to and parallel to the loading direction, respectively. It is can be said that the proposed method reconstruct laboratory test very well.
