Yosakoi dance performance by "KYOTO TEAM SARARA"

We are members of a dancing team called "KYOTO TEAM SARARA". KYOTO TEAM SARARA is composed of university students, technical college students and other citizens of Kyoto. We perform a traditional Japanese dance called Yosakoi. The number of KYOTO TEAM SARARA’s members exceeds 100.

We practice dancing four times a week in the square in front of Kyoto City Hall and we participate in some Yosakoi festivals in Kouchi, Hokkaido, Aichi and other areas. There are other activities KYOTO TEAM SARARA does, for example, the teaching of Yosakoi to pupils and we often exchange skills and friendships with other Yosakoi teams. We would like to show you the results of our practice.

"Yosakoi" means "come in the night" in Japanese. Yosakoi songs are very famous traditional songs that started from Kouci prefecture in Japan. Yosakoi festival was for the purpose of the recovery of economic and the community about fifty years ago. Now, many Yosakoi festivals are held all over the country. One of the biggest festivals is "Yosakoi Souran Festival" in Hokkaido in June. At this festival, 334 teams and 43,000 people participate. In 2006 the audience population was as many as 2.1 million. Yosakoi festival is very interesting! Please go and see it.
