Activities

SEGJ is conducting various activities for promoting geophysical exploration and for accelerating information exchange with other societies in Japan and overseas. Such activities include the following.

Technical Journal: Butsuri-Tansa (Geophysical Exploration), which is the official journal published bi-monthly, contains original papers, lectures, reviews, news, and announcements of the Society. The first issue, every year, is a joint publication with ASEG and KSEG.

Technical Conference: Spring and Fall Technical Conferences are held every year. A meeting consists of approximately 100 oral and poster presentations together with invited lectures and/or symposium.

Education Program: Geophysical Seminar, started in 1985, is a 3-day education course consisting lectures on fundamental techniques and applications of exploration geophysics. Other education programs, including One-Day Seminar, Campus Visit, Technical Caravan, and SEG/EAGE DISC, are also held routinely.

Research Group: Research Groups are formed for conducting researches and holding technical meetings on specific topics which draw the interest of many members. Research groups of civil engineering, electrical methods, earthquake and disaster prevention are currently active.

International Cooperation: With co-sponsorship of foreign geophysical societies, SEGJ has held SEGJ International Symposia periodically since 1990. The 8th symposium was held in November 2006 and the 9th symposium is scheduled to be held in October 2009. SEGJ keeps close cooperation with overseas societies by exchanging the journals and attending the conferences with each other.

Publication: In addition to the periodical journal, SEGJ has published books, dictionaries, etc. Recent publications include: Geophysical Handbook (1998), Dictionary of Exploration Geophysics ? New Edition (2005), Case Studies of Geophysical Exploration (2008), and Application of Geophysical Methods to Engineering and Environmental Problems ? New Edition (2008).
